HP Ratings are designed to help you on evaluating players or choosing the most suitable ones to your team. They are made with high expertise and are not based on the original and somewhat questionable HUT card stat formulas.

While EA Sports NHL uses the stat range of 36-99, we go further and display the HP Ratings in the range of 0-100. Not only the use of this gives more rating space, it also shifts all values down. So don't be upset if you see your favorite player's HP Overall being a lot lower. The ratings are just in a larger scale.

HP Ratings are different for forwards and defenders, as you may notice from the table below. This is because forwards and defenders are very differently used. That is to say, their roles are different.

Use HP Ratings, and get a better view of a card's abilities! Below are listed the formulas for HP Ratings.

HP Ratings are shifted to the 0-100 scale by using the formula below:

x = calculated rating (see above)
y = 2x - 98

A player's height affects the final HP Overall. The result of the following equation will be added to the calculated overall(`x`

) in the formula above. If the player is right-handed, 0.125 will be added to `x`

below.

x = height in inches, where 67 is the minimum value and 81 the maximum value
Forwards:
y = 0.15x - 11.66
Defenders:
y = 0.3x - 22.91

HP Beast-rating will be subtracted by 3.5 before shifting to the 0-100 scale. In addition, height and weight are a factor in the HP Beast-rating. Results of the following equations will be added to the calculated rating. If the player is right-handed, 0.3 will be added to `x`

below.

x = height in inches, where 67 is the minimum value and 81 the maximum value
y = weight in lbs, where 129 is the minimum value and 290 the maximum value
h = 0.4x - 29.6
w = 0.05y - 10.1

#### Position Usability Score

Position usability score describes a skater's suitability for different field position. If this rating is over 1, the card is better suitable as a forward than a defender. Players with a negative usability score are better suitable as defenders based on their attributes. The values which don't fall between (0-1) cannot be assigned a clear position recommendation.

Position usability score is calculated by subtracting forward's HP Overall from the defender's HP Overall before shifting the values to the 0-100 scale. Lastly, the difference is multiplied by 3.35 and rounded down to one decimal place.
